A Catch up with the Club Captain

Corinthians' Club Captain, Steve Kemp, spoke to Club Media Officer, Daniel Mann about the current season and what the future holds for Corinthians FC. Have a read below to see what he had to say.

Midway through the season, how is the club doing so far? The Club is doing really well on and off the pitch, its great to be involved and to see us go from 1 single team when I joined back in 2001 to now have a total of 19 teams is a massive achievement which everyone that is part of the club should be proud. The Corinthians name is definitely getting out there and I keep seeing some great results coming in week by week.

You play for the Vets first team, are you happy with the Vets teams start and has there been any positive additions to the squad? Great start to the Vets season we have played 10 won 10 and sitting top of the league and are also into the Essex cup semi final and 2 other cup Quarter finals, Dave has bought some great additions to the squad this year and is by far the strongest Vets team we have had to date, there will be some tough games against good opposition coming up but hopefully we can win the league and a couple of the cups to make it a great season.

How would you sum up you time at Corinthians now your approaching 500 Games? Its been great and wouldn’t change any of it, some of my best friends I have met through football, playing with and against, most of the Vets team I play with I have grown up playing against and we have been involved in playing against each other in loads of big games, cup finals and title deciders. Corinthians is an amazing club that has not only a lot of quality players but some great people involved that make the club what it is today.

Messi or Ronaldo and why? I would say Ronaldo, Messi is world class and it is very hard to split them however for me Ronaldo is a more all-round complete player.

Gerrard, Scholes or Lampard and why? It has to be Gerrard for me as he is one of my favourite players of all time, I loved his passion and determination to win no matter the scoreline or what minute it was in the game, he had the ability to do something and change a game at any moment.

Away from Football, what are your sporting/ Non sporting interests? Outside of football, I don’t really play any other sports but I enjoy watching any sport, I enjoy spending time with the family and trying to get as many holiday in as possible.

Would you like to be involved in local football once you hang up the boots? Yes definitely, my daughter is 9 now and plays for Rayleigh girls, I help out now and then with the team and would love to get more involved with that after I finish playing.
